Asking For It longlisted for the Walkley Documentary Award 2023
Six outstanding documentaries have been longlisted for the 2023 Walkley Documentary Award.
The six films selected are all powerful in their impact and storytelling, showcasing the best in Australian long-form journalism while using a broad variety of stylistic approaches in keeping with their subject matter.
Walkley CEO Shona Martyn said: “As is the case with all categories in the Walkley Awards, the Documentary category is for works of journalism. The judges, specialists in this field, looked for films that are grounded in the principles of journalism – accuracy, impact, public benefit, ethics, creativity, research and reporting – together with rigorous filmmaking, courage and creativity in concept, approach and execution.
“The six documentaries on the longlist demonstrate the range of powerful work being created in Australia today. All the longlisted teams are to be heartily congratulated. This was a hotly contested category.”
The following films have made the Walkley Documentary Award longlist:

Three of the films will be shortlisted for the 2023 Walkley Documentary Award. They will be announced alongside all the finalists for the 68th Walkley Awards on Thursday, October 12. All the Walkley Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday 23 November, at the ICC in Sydney.
