Australian Human Rights Award win

On Friday last week, Northern Pictures was awarded a prestigious Human Rights Award for Media and Creative Industries by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

It was an acknowledgement of the production company’s commitment to telling important and inclusive stories for the last decade.

Northern Pictures slate of hard-hitting documentaries, such as ‘See What You Made Me Do’ and ‘Asking for It’, have put family and sexual violence in the spotlight. And series such as ‘Love on the Spectrum’, ‘Employable Me’ and Kid’s Drama ‘Hardball’, highlight diversity and tell inclusive stories.

Head of Factual and Emmy award-winning producer, Karina Holden, said the award is a gratifying recognition for the whole company:

“It is wonderful to have audience and critical acclaim. But to be acknowledged by the AHRC is an extraordinary honour and very humbling. This award inspires us to keep producing content that pushes for social change and benefits Australian society as a whole”

Managing Director, Peter Anderson said:

“I am very proud of the shows we produce and the Northern Pictures team who work so hard to create, produce & deliver content that shines a light on important issues and that are produced with great sensitivity & respect”.

This year’s awards coincide with global celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.
