A national treasure. A shocking trial. Rolf Harris: Primetime Predator exposes for the first time how celebrity, nostalgia and unchecked power shielded decades of abuse.
Rolf Harris was an Australian-born entertainer who captivated audiences for over 60 years. With his signature wobble board, folksy charm, and hits like “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport,” he became a beloved household name in the UK and Australia. He conquered Glastonbury, was awarded an MBE, a CBE and a BAFTA Fellowship, and was embraced as a national treasure, the ultimate ‘good bloke,’ and even commissioned to paint The Queen’s 80th birthday portrait.
But in 2014, Harris was convicted of twelve counts of indecent assault against young girls and women, shattering his public image and sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
This two-part documentary for ABC Television in Australia delves into the extraordinary life of Rolf Harris, exploring both his meteoric rise to fame and the astonishing fall that followed. In the wake of his recent death, a veil of fear once cast by this powerful figure has finally lifted, and we hear for the first time from the survivors who are only now able to seek recognition and justice.
The series poses the central question: how do we remember Rolf Harris?
