“The Penguin” and “The Studio” may have dominated the winners list at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, but Australian talent didn’t miss out on success.
Australia’s Northern Pictures won two gongs for season three of “Love on the Spectrum”: Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program.
This brought the total tally of Creative Arts Emmy wins for “Love on the Spectrum” to seven (2022, 2024, 2025), making it the most Primetime Emmy Awards won by an Australian company.
Critics and viewers have adored “Love on the Spectrum” just as much as the Television Academy, with the most recent season also seeing the most successful matches to date.
In the Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program category, Northern Pictures’ Karina Holden, Cian O’Clery and Diana Gonzales won for “Love on the Spectrum,” despite facing stern competition from blockbuster series such as “Welcome to Wrexham” and “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.”
For Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, meanwhile, Northern Pictures’ Cian O’Clery, Sean Bowman and Emma Choate earned the win, again seeing off tough competitors in the teams behind casting for the likes of “The Amazing Race,” “Queer Eye” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
“Love on the Spectrum” was also nominated in other categories, including Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program (Dave May, Cian O’Clery) and Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program (Leanne Cole, Rachel Grierson-Johns, Gretchen Peterson, John Rosser).
Karina Holden, Head of Factual for Northern Pictures and Executive Producer and Co-Creator of “Love on the Spectrum,” shares: “To win two Primetime Emmy Awards is an extraordinary honour that reflects our team’s passion and dedication to the series. Since its inception, ‘Love on the Spectrum’ has had the incredible ability to change perceptions, create more understanding and resonate globally across cultural boundaries. I’m immensely proud of our team and especially, the participants who have so generously shared their lives with viewers around the world.”
Cian O’Clery, Director, Executive Producer and Co-Creator of “Love on the Spectrum,” adds: “We are deeply honoured to be recognised by the Television Academy. From the beginning, our aim has been to create a series that treats our participants with dignity and respect while offering genuine insight into their experiences. These awards celebrate not only our production team’s efforts but also the courage of our participants who have touched millions with their personal journeys and helped reshape the public’s understanding of autism.”
Critics and viewers have adored “Love on the Spectrum” just as much as the Television Academy, with the most recent season ranking in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for two weeks. A fourth season is already in production.
Elsewhere at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Apple TV+’s “The Studio earned nine total wins, while HBO Max’s “The Penguin” nabbed eight gongs.
