‘The Jury: Death on the Staircase’ longlisted for the Walkley Documentary Award 2025

Six outstanding documentaries have been longlisted for the 2025 Walkley Documentary Award.

The six films selected are all powerful in their impact and storytelling, showcasing the best in Australian long-form journalism.

The following films have made the Walkley Documentary Award longlist: 

  • Antony Loewenstein, The Palestine Laboratory, Freelance/Al Jazeera English

  • Tosca Looby, Karina Holden, Bethan Arwel-Lewis, The Jury: Death on the Staircase, Northern Pictures, SBS Television

  • Yaara Bou Melhem & Maitland Parker Team, Yurlu | Country, Illuminate Films

  • WildBear Entertainment, Joh: Last King of Queensland, Stan

  • Wild Pacific Media team, The Kimberley, ABC

  • Tim Noonan, Hunt for Truth: Tasmanian Tiger, SBS

Three of the films will be shortlisted for the 2025 Walkley Documentary Award. They will be announced alongside all the finalists for the 70th Walkley Awards on Thursday, 16 October. Subscribe to the Walkley email newsletter for news.

The winners of the 70th Walkley Awards will be announced at a Gala Dinner on Thursday 27 November, 2025.
