Tiny Oz

3 x 1 HR |  2022 | PRODUCED FOR ABC AUSTRALIA

Comedian Jimmy Rees and tiny craft artist JoAnne Bouzianis-Sellick unite with the extraordinary crafts people of Australia to recreate remarkable moments in our nation’s history, in glorious miniature.

Supported by our hosts, local artisans accept the challenge to hand build tableaus representing intriguing events that have all but vanished from living memory. In 1904, a chain of events occurred in the bustling lawless pearling town of Broome (WA), that helped to shape the modern day, uniquely multicultural town. In South Australia during the late 1800s, a hot air balloon launch fascinated and scandalised the people of Adelaide. During the First World War, hundreds of animals were escorted through the streets of Sydney and across the harbour, en route to their brand new home - Taronga Zoo.

Celebrating history and craft in equal measure, Jimmy and JoAnne reveal Australia in exquisite detail, through the surprising crafts people who are working against pressures of time and scale, and lovingly slave over teensy details.
